My Poor Baby!

Poor little Kate broke her leg today, right above her ankle! And it wasn't even her falling down----it was me!! I was carrying her and we were walking down the stairs to go fix some lunch and all the sudden my foot slipped out from under me and we were airborne for a second and I landed on my bum with her still on my hip....well I guess her little foot behind me got crushed somehow. She started crying right away but I thought it was just because she was scared. But then her cry wasn't the normal fussing cry...it was the "I'm hurt" cry and it went on for 30 minutes without stopping-not something Kate normally does....so I knew something was wrong! I checked her over and noticed her left ankle and foot was swollen and red compared to the other and she wouldn't stand up for me. So off to the pediatrician we went. They took an x-ray and sure enough-she broke it! Those words made my heart stop. I was almost sure she had just sprained it or twisted it. Kids are made of rubber right? She showed me the break on the x-ray and sure enough-she needed a cast. So off to the orthopedic surgeon we went! They were very nice and Kate did great-well except for the 4 x-rays she had to have. She wasn't a fan of laying on that table and having someone hold her hurt leg down. :( She sat in my lap while 2 sweet nurses put her pink cast on. They had to put it all the way up to her thigh with her knee bent so she won't try to walk on it. She'll have that on for 3 weeks and then have that taken off and a smaller one will be put on below her knee for 2 weeks. Thankfully she can walk with the second one on. I can tell these 3 weeks are going to drag! Tonight she was already wanting to pull up on furniture and walk, but was so frustrated that she can't. Thank goodness she can crawl though. The sad part is she was at the point where she was walking (practially running) all over the house and laughing the whole time because it was so fun! And now she's back to crawling. Well, it is what it is and I'm just thankful it wasn't any worse than it was! What an emotional day! Of course I was feeling horrible and responsible, but everyone was so nice and made me feel better today. I think Kate is handling it better than me! We'll keep you posted!

January

I have been such a slacker with the blog! I am just lazy when it comes to downloading pictures. So here are a few pictures from this past month. I can't believe my baby is officially a toddler now. She is 13 months today. We love you sweet baby Kate!

She is walking all over the place now....it's so cute. And a relief for me. Before, she would want to hold my finger and walk all around the house but now she can do it all by herself! yea!!

Trying to get Kate to smile for pictures now is quite a challenge. She is too busy to sit still and smile for the camera. Oh well.

Kate loves to play with the stereo. She's figured out how to turn it on and off and she does this over and over until I have to walk her away from it. But it's still cute.

Playing in the kitchen with her bowls

Eating her snack on the couch( which she rarely gets to do) and lovin it

Walking around the living room. You can really see her 2 top teeth good here. She has 4 teeth total right now.
Other things kate's been up to..........she loves to "pet" Sadie. It's more like hard pats on her back, but thankfully we have a sweet and patient dog and Sadie actually likes to play with Kate now. They're becoming good buddies. Sadie will bring her toy to kate hoping she'll throw it for her and Kate thinks its so funny!
Kate will say Sadie, uh-oh, yum yum (more like mmm-mmm), ball, baby, mama, dada, bye bye.
She is a picky eater! This is probably my least favorite time of the day-mealtimes. The kid won't eat vegetables unless I've pureed them. I'm trying to get her off the bottle now too. She only has 2 a day with just milk in it-which she chugs down. But if it's in her sippy cup, she acts like it's poison. So I'm trying to figure out how to get her to drink her milk out of a cup so I can quit the bottles. If you have any tips, please help!!
Kate is not the type of baby that likes to sit still in your lap or cuddle....she is on the move the entire time she is awake! I can hardly get her to sit still to read her a couple of books. She loves to try to turn the pages but wants to do it by herself. Also, she is becoming a little bit of a drama queen. If she doesn't get her way, she has a crying fit and we've learned if we just ignore it she moves on.
We are loving this stage Kate is in, but I find myself watching her play and talk to herself and realize that this is the only time she will be this little and it makes me sad. I love this little one!!!

oops. not sure how these pictures got down here. This is Kate watching her daddy shovel snow off the driveway
